On the debut album, "Birds in Zonderland", styles and sounds change with every song, while guitar and computer battle for space, melody and rhythm for attention, bliss and wistfulness for expression. But they’re all reconciled by the beauty of contrast.
After a period of making dance music mixes, Mensur Serifovic retired his dependency on bpm and started making music with a diluted electronic quotient as amaniku. Birds in Zonderland was recorded over two years in bedrooms in Sarajevo, Amsterdam and New York and bears the multicultural trace of its itinerary and a love of things varied. “It wasn’t a formalized plan at the start or anything," says amaniku, "but I think it ended up being the kind of album I like to listen to. I like records where each song has an identity, where there is enough amplitude in content to keep me interested. If all the songs kinda sound the same I’m bored by the end of the record.”
